Lewis and Clark Public Health has trained staff to provide education to families on how to properly install a car seat as well as what precautions to take to protect babies from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

Child Passenger Safety

LCPH has trained staff to provide education to families on how to properly install a car seat and recommend precautions to help protect babies from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that kids be at least 5 years old and weigh at least 40 pounds before riding in a booster. All Certified Technicians and Instructors will advocate for keeping kids in safety seats with internal harnesses for as long as possible and up to the maximum height and weight for the seat.  Lewis and Clark Public Health partners with Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies to provide car seats at no cost to Montana families in need. Families who receive car seats also undergo training on how to install and use the seat. Lewis and Clark Public Health has three licensed Child Passenger Safety Technicians to assist with training and installation.

Crib Safety

The safest place for babies to sleep is on their back, in a crib, in the same room as their parents. Following these precautions helps protect against sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). See our recommendations to parents for keeping babies safe while they sleep. To ensure that residents from Lewis and Clark County and surrounding areas, Lewis and Clark Public Health partners with Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies to provide portable cribs to families in need.
