Patrol Division

• Comprising approximately 28 sworn deputy positions, the division maintains a robust presence 24/7
• Deputies are based at substations in Lincoln, Augusta, and Wolf Creek— with two living locally to ensure deep community ties
• The remaining deputies patrol wide-ranging regions such as the Helena Valley, East Helena, Canyon Creek, Marysville, Lakeside, York, as well as Canyon Ferry Lake beaches and campgrounds during peak seasons

• Emergency response & calls for service: Deputies handle 911 calls, accidents, disturbances, suspicious activity, and more.
• Preventative patrol & traffic enforcement: Regular patrols are conducted both day and night to deter criminal activity and enforce road safety
• Courthouse security: A dedicated deputy maintains safety in Justice and District courts, providing presence during hearings, inmate escorts, and threat response

• In 2024, deputies were issued standard-issue 9 mm Shadow System pistols with red dot sights for consistent training and reduced liability
• Axon Taser 10s were added to the gear lineup—operational at up to 40 feet with warning capability—to reduce lethal force usage
• Body-worn cameras and linked patrol-car cameras with “officer-down” alerts enhance transparency and safety

• The division emphasizes strong community partnerships, with resident deputies in small towns and visible presence during local events (e.g., National Night Out, Faith & Blue weekend)
