Lewis and Clark County Shines Green in Support of Veterans

Helena, MT – In recognition of the upcoming Veterans Day holiday, the Lewis and Clark County Board of Commissioners will illuminate county buildings in green from November 4, 2024, through November 11, 2025, as part of Operation Green Light — a national initiative that honors military veterans and raises awareness about the challenges they face, as well as the resources available to support them and their families at the county, state, and federal levels.
“Operation Green Light is our way of honoring and supporting the more than 6,000 veterans who call Lewis and Clark County home,” said County Commissioner and Board Chair Candace Payne. “We are deeply grateful for their service to our nation and for the sacrifices they and their families have made.”
In addition to lighting county buildings, Lewis and Clark County invites residents, businesses, and community organizations to join the effort by replacing one of their light bulbs with a green bulb. This can be an exterior light visible to others or an interior light that sparks meaningful conversations. By shining a green light, we remind our veterans that they are seen, valued, and supported—especially as they transition back to civilian life.
Now in its fifth year, Operation Green Light is expected to draw hundreds of participating counties from states across the nation. The county role in administering services for veterans includes County Veterans Service Officers helping fellow former service members access more than $52 billion in federal health, disability and compensation benefits each year, as well as other services supporting the approximately 200,000 service members who transition into civilian communities annually.
Counties and residents across the country may share their participation on social media using the hashtag #OperationGreenLight.
