What is Your Alcohol Story? Collecting Thoughts, Stories, and Ideas from Community Residents.
A year ago in summer 2024, we published an alcohol use questionnaire and spent the next six months gathering stories and ideas from residents about their lived experience and thoughts about alcohol – the good, the bad, and the ugly. The community questionnaire was taken by 97 respondents over the course of half a year and reflects a wide snapshot of our community. 57 of those respondents agreed to have their answers published. The published narratives have been edited for grammar, spelling, and brevity.
Surveyed residents were given the option of using their real first name, an alias, or remaining anonymous. All three options were used, with most choosing to remain anonymous.
Surveyed residents included online respondents, college students at Carroll College and Helena College, unhoused neighbors in Helena, and working professionals in the health care field.
Should you like to share your own answers to these questions, we would welcome your stories, ideas, and thoughts in the comment section below each post.
Q1: What is your alcohol story?
Q2: How has alcohol positively impacted your life?
Q3: How has alcohol negatively impacted your life?
Q4: What do you think is the biggest challenge to cutting back or stopping drinking?
Q5: What do you think is the biggest barrier to people receiving treatment for alcohol misuse or addiction?
Q6: Do you have any ideas for sober-friendly community events?
