Civilian Positions
The Lewis & Clark County Sheriff’s Office in Helena, Montana employs roughly 14 civilian staff across detention and support roles. These include administrative secretaries, finance coordinators, accounting technicians, evidence technicians, civilian deputy coroners, a communications systems manager, radio technicians, jail medical registered nurses, sobriety compliance coordinators, animal control officers, civil secretaries, and civil paralegals. They also play a vital role in the Civil Division, where a civilian secretary and paralegal support a sergeant and two sworn deputies in processing over 3,000 civil papers annually—from subpoenas to eviction notices and concealed weapons permits. These civilian professionals are the backbone of administrative, financial, communications, medical, and civil operations, enabling deputies to focus on public safety and law enforcement.
