Joint Infrastructure Study Presentation and Open House

Lewis and Clark County and the City of Helena are studying infrastructure within the Urban Standards Boundary (USB). The USB is land currently located outside of, but adjacent to the City Limits of Helena, that is designated as a priority area for future connection to City infrastructure systems and ultimately annexation. An informational session and public open house are planned as the second of three public engagement opportunities throughout the study. The following event will be held to report on existing conditions, projected growth areas, and preliminary planning for future infrastructure concepts within the USB.

Project Overview

The focus of the study is existing and proposed infrastructure within the USB. Infrastructure refers to drinking water systems, wastewater collection and treatment systems, stormwater management facilities, transportation systems, solid waste collection, and fire protection facilities and systems.

Land within the USB currently consists of a variety of land use types, including undeveloped grasslands, developed residential, commercial, and industrial properties, and cultivated cropland. Existing developed properties within the USB are not connected to City infrastructure and are served by a variation of infrastructure types.

The infrastructure plan will evaluate existing conditions within the USB, identify deficiencies with current infrastructure, and identify options for future systems that consider and describe what is needed to upgrade existing systems to meet City of Helena standards. The intended use of the plan is to serve as a tool for planning, development, and responsible growth, giving direction for the expansion of public facilities.
