The Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s Office Coroner Division is committed to providing our community professional and compassionate assistance when a death has occurred.  The division consists of two full time Deputy Coroners, six on-call Deputy Coroners, and an Evidence Technician. 

Each year, there are approximately 600 deaths in Lewis and Clark County. The Coroner Division responds to approximately half of those. The other half are in the care of a doctor when they die. This includes admitted hospital patients, nursing home residents, and hospice patients. Dependent upon the case, a death investigation can be relatively short and lengthy due to a variety of circumstances such as reviewing medical history, discussions with the Medical Examiner, toxicology and autopsy; however, not every case will require these steps.
