Road, Bridge and Sign Division

The Road, Bridge, and Sign Divisions are responsible for maintaining County roads and bridges. During the winter they provide County residents with snow removal services such as plowing and sanding. They oversee the design and reconstruction of existing roads and bridges, perform maintenance projects such as pothole repairs, chip seals, striping, signage, safety modifications, drainage and storm water improvements. The office is located at 3402 Cooney Drive, Helena, MT.

Snowdrift Road will be closed April 12-13 between Collins Drive and Ferry Road to install three culverts. The project is part of a Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP) project the County began working on last year.
In 2020, Lewis and Clark County received $698,502 in FLAP grant money to do surface preservation work on these roads. The County match funding is $93,470 plus in-kind work.
FLAP grants improve roads and bridges that provide access to, are adjacent to, or are located within Federal Lands. The program supplements state and local resources for public roads, transit systems, and other transportation facilities, with an emphasis on high-use recreation sites and economic generators. Collins Drive, Ferry Drive and Snowdrift Road are used to access popular BLM lands.
The project will include the addition of new culverts, reconstruction of ditches, removal of trees in the right of way on Snowdrift between Collins and Ferry, new subgrade preparation, gravel and an application of soil stabilizer. Lewis and Clark County personnel are conducting the culvert, tree removal, ditch and subgrade work. Gravel will be hauled and placed this spring/summer.
The County will assume maintenance of these roads when the work is complete.
