Community Planning Assistance for Wildfire (CPAW)

In the fall of 2016, Lewis and Clark County was selected from a nationwide competitive process to participate in the Community Planning Assistance for Wildfire (CPAW) program. CPAW is a national assistance program that supports communities in making land use planning decisions to address wildfire. In the past year, the CPAW team members have met with stakeholders to discuss our local issues and conducted several field tours to learn about our unique environment and wildfire risk challenges. The team also thoroughly reviewed our existing community planning documents to identify gaps and opportunities for strengthening our wildfire policies and regulations. As this process comes to an end, the CPAW team has assembled a set of voluntary recommendations for Lewis and Clark County to augment our strategies to address wildfire risk through appropriate land-use planning tools. The recommendations are available to review here.
