Boards, Committees & Special Purpose Districts
Lewis and Clark County is very fortunate to have caring and concerned citizens who volunteer their time to serve on boards, commissions and committees. Some of these boards and committees are appointed by the Board of County Commissioners, while others are comprised of members elected by their special district constituents.

Zoning Advisory Panel
Lewis and Clark County is seeking applicants for a 12-member Zoning Advisory Panel. Appointments will be for approximately 12 months, with dissolution by January 15, 2022, unless extended by the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC).
Task: Provide recommendations on regulations for the recently approved Urban and Suburban Residential Mixed-Use Zone Districts, as well as options or alternative approaches to the temporarily deferred 10-acre minimum lot size/density for the Rural Residential Mixed-Use Zone District.
Seeking representatives from each of the following categories:
- Real Estate
- Fire Services, with background in both wildland and non-wildland issues
- Helena Valley Flood Committee representing flooding concerns
- Affordable Housing
- Banking and Finance
- Conservation Land Trusts
- Citizens of the Helena Valley Planning Area, including from existing Part-1 and Part-2 zoned areas
- County Appointed Official from the City-County Consolidated Planning Board
The selection process will follow the Commission’s current process for solicitation and appointment to other Boards. Completed applications must be received by 4:30 pm on December 14, 2020. The Commissioners will consider the applications and make appointments at the December 22, 2020, Commission meeting.

There are various groups of concerned citizens who meet to discuss County business – they make decisions and/or recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners, which help to shape the County’s future and set standards and goals for the community. The volunteers dedicate much of their time, talent and hard work to their respective boards and committees. Their continued commitment is the reason for the quality of life that is unique to Lewis and Clark County.

ELECTED BOARDS AND COMMITTEES
Montana law authorizes the creation of districts for a specialized and limited purpose.
In Lewis and Clark County there are 30 such "Special Purpose Districts:" nine Fire Districts, four Fire Service Areas, twelve Water and/or Sewer Districts, a Soil Conservation District, Park District, Irrigation District, Hospital District, and Community Council. Each of these Special Purpose Districts is governed by an elected board or council.
