Helena, MT – The Lewis and Clark County Elections Office updated voter turnout figures for the September 9, 2025, City of Helena Municipal Primary and School Bond Election. The updated turnout is 51.75%, following the discovery that inactive voters were inadvertently excluded from the initial calculation.

The initial turnout report, based on data from the Montana Secretary of State’s Office, showed a participation rate of 59.71%. However, due to overlapping voting districts between the City of Helena and the Helena School District, inactive voters were not included in the original data set. This discrepancy has now been corrected.

“Even with the adjustment, turnout was still higher than usual for a school election,” said Connor Fitzpatrick, Lewis and Clark County Elections Supervisor. “It surpassed the turnout for the 2024 regular school election, which was itself high.”

It’s important to note that this update does not affect the number of ballots cast or the outcome of the election and has been updated alongside the completion of the count of provisional ballots. Final election results can be found at lccountymt.gov/vote and will become official upon completion of the canvass.

Inactive voters are individuals who did not vote in the last federal general election and failed to respond to two confirmation mailings from the county election office. Voters may also be marked as inactive if their ballot is returned as 'undeliverable' and they do not respond to follow-up communications—such as when they have moved out of the county.
