Nancy Sweeney - Clerk of District Court
Following is a short biography for Nancy Sweeney
Nancy Sweeney is a fifth generation Montanan. She was born in Helena and graduated from Helena High School.
Nancy began working in the clerk of district court’s office after graduation from Montana State University, Bozeman, in the fall of 1979. She has one son and one daughter. Nancy has been the elected Lewis and Clark County Clerk of District Court since 1995.
Nancy has served on numerous statewide, professional committees. She currently serves on the State Bar Association’s Justice Initiatives committee. In 2001, she received the First Judicial District’s Pro Bono Award. In September of 2013, Nancy received a distinguished service award from the State Bar for over a decade of service as a founding member and co-chair of the Montana Supreme Court Equal Justice Task Force. Nancy is a past president of the Montana Association of Clerks of District Court and has been chair of their legislative committee for 17 years. Nancy was a founding member of the Montana Supreme Court Commission on Technology. She has served as a member of the Supreme Court Privacy and Access Committee as well as the Supreme Court Electronic Filing subcommittee.
In 2003, her office developed and implemented a mandatory parenting class for all dissolution and parenting actions filed in Lewis and Clark County. This program has been presented by court staff, judges and volunteer mediators and therapist for the past ten years. Originally developed by Donna Hale and Diana Longdon, the Children First program has been attended by over 5000 parents.
