Disaster and Emergency Services
The mission of Lewis and Clark County Disaster and Emergency Services (DES) is to protect lives, property, and the environment through preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation planning and activities.
DES Coordinator Paul Spengler manages the county Emergency Operations Center in the basement of the Law Enforcement Center during emergencies.
He also serves as the county safety coordinator and the county floodplain administrator and manages the floodplains through a permit system in the county's identified floodplains.
Local Emergency Preparedness Committee (LEPC)
The LEPC is a group made up of representatives of public and private agencies. It meets the third Wednesday of each month at 3 PM in the basement of the Law Enforcement Center to plan and coordinate responses to all hazards in the county.
Public comment will be accepted on the Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan until February 28, 2017. The plan is available at www.countypdm.com. Select Lewis and Clark County. The password is Helena.
